Adam and Laurel are doing a little shopping while Adam's dad is out of town, and it seems some of Laurel's memory is returning. She sees Morpark in town and freaks out, though. Back at Shadowmere, Morpark tells Ann they need to get Laurel because she holds the key to getting Madeline back from the same plane the two were sent to. Ann runs to Adam's house to warn him and his mom. Laurel says she used to be best friends with Ann's mom, Angelique. They head out, with Watch and Sally, to get Laurel to the safety of an area of Springville with heavy copper concentration, which should shield them from the psychic powers of Morpark and his minions, the Hermoculi. Watch and Sally decide to go back, sneaking into Shadowmere to try to learn something about Morpark's creatures from the library there. In the mountains, Laurel explains that Angelique began to scare her with her powers when they were young, so when she stumbled upon the raven's eye she hid it from Angelique then switched colleges ... The threesome are at Adam's house playing a board game (with a mini-guillotine!) when Adam's dad tells them to go take a hike - literally. As in, go outside and get some exercise. On their mountain hike, Watch finds a crystal that seems to grant wishes. He wishes to be able to eat anything. And he can. Back at Sally's house, she takes her turn and wishes for a duplicate of herself to do her chores. Then a robotic soldier shows up at her doorstep, saying he's collecting the debt for the wishes Watch and Sally made with the crystal. They either have to pay an exorbitant amount of currency or work off the debt in the mines of this creature's planet in another dimension. They flee to Adam's house, where the soldier follows them. Adam shoots it with a toy gun - and it takes the robot out! Adam's dad gets home and demands the truth from his son. Sally got scratched during a game in gym class yesterday, and now she is infected with the fire inside, coughing out smoke and feeling feverish. She says it was Ann Templeton who scratched her. A little research turns up a possible cure - the rare crystal moonflower plant, which just happens to be growing at the Templeton estate, Shadowmere. Adam, Watch and Sally ask Ann for some of it, and she wants to cut a deal to get the raven's eye stone from Adam. The three kids then sneak onto the grounds of Shadowmere and spy Ann and her butler Morpark in some kind of sorcery ceremony. They also see some ghoulish creatures. They get inside and get to the crystal moonflower, but the soda that Watch mixes it with for the cure only makes things worse for Sally. She's now coughing fire! Ann to the rescue, believe it or not: She sees the threesome and ushers them to a safe place where Morpark won't see, claiming to be a prisoner at Shadowmere.
